Vitex (Chaste Berry)
Vitex (Agnus-Castus) is a Mediterranian plant that has been traditionally used by monks as an anti-libido medicine, hence it's other names: Chaste Tree, Chasteberry and Monk's Pepper. Agnus-Castus acts on the pituitary gland to decrease production of prolactin and increase production of luteinizing hormone (LH) hormone. This property of Vitex is used by herbalists and natural health practitioners for treating female menstrual hormone imbalances to relive PMS symptoms, or to help with menstrual cycle irregularities.
