Found in: Vitamin B | Cholesterol Management | Hormonal Balance Support Vitamin B-3 (Niacin)Niacin (vitamin B-3) plays an essential role in the activities of enzymes involved in carbohydrate and fat metabolism; functioning of nervous and digestive system; manufacture of sex hormones; and maintenance of healthy skin. Niacin is available in several different forms: nicotinic acid (free form niacin), niacinamide (also called nicotinamide), inositol hexaniacinate (known as no flush niacin) and chromium polynicotinate (also called chromium nicotinate). High doses of niacin (as nicotinic acid or inositol hexaniacinate) are commonly used to lower elevated LDL ("bad") cholesterol and triglyceride (fat) levels in the blood and increasing HDL ("good") cholesterol levels.
