Found in: Glucomannan | Fiber PolyGlycopleX (PGX™)PGX™, short for PolyGlycopleX, is a blend of naturally-occurring water-soluble fibers and is the result of many years of intensive clinical and laboratory research at the University of Toronto in collaboration with Canadian Center for Functional Medicine. A key component of PGX™ is glucomannan, a soluble fiber from the root of konjac. Glucomannan is 3 times more viscous than guar and 7 times more viscous than psyllium. With this, and the other components it contains, PGX™ has a viscosity 3 to 5 times greater than glucomannan alone and as a result it can absorb more than 600 times its weight in water. If taken with water before meals, soluble fiber lowers absorption of sugar and other nutrients, lowers cholesterol levels, induces feeling of satiety and reduces appetite, and improves bowel movement. The high viscosity of PGX™ makes these beneficial effects achievable with relatively small quantity of a just few grams per day. However, recent research suggests that if PGX™ is taken in higher doses, a dramatic reduction in appetite is achieved even among the heaviest individuals. Taking supplemental fiber, particularly as part of a weight loss program, reduces body absorption of all nutrients, including vitamins and minerals not just sugars and fats. We suggest also taking a quality multi-vitamin formula with whole foods, such as the Source of Life line for a healthy way to diet. Both WellBetX and SlimStyles® meal replacement powders are mixed with water and taken as a drink or as a pudding.
