In human body, phytoestrogens may have the same effects as estrogen or block estrogen's effects. The effect depends on the amount of phytoestrogens and other factors. Since estrogen has been linked with bone, heart health and breast cancer risk in women, phytoestrogens are investigated for these effects as well. Most phytoestrogens are classified chemically as either isoflavonoids, lignans or coumestans. Soy isoflavonoids are the most commonly encountered phytoestrogens. Other phytoestrogen sources are flaxseed lignans, extracts from black cohosh, red clover, wild yam, and dong quai. PhytoEstrogens Related Categories: |
