MSM is the major form of sulfur found in the tissues and fluids of humans, animals and plants. Sulfur is an important element for all cells and body tissues, particularly for cartilage, tendons, and ligaments. It is often combined with two other popular joint supplements, glucosamine and chondroitin that can also be a source of sulfur if they are in the form sulfate (not to be confused with sulfite). Some people are allergic to sulfites, sometimes incorrectly called sulfur (it is impossible to be allergic to sulfur). Sulfites are formed by reaction of water in food or wine with sulfur dioxide food additive that is done to kill bacteria and to slow down oxidation.
