Buffered vitamin C is a non-acidic form of vitamin C that is available as either a salt (ascorbate) or proprietary form called Ester-C®. Ascorbate is a salt of ascorbic acid and a metal, such as sodium, calcium, magnesium or zinc among others, and thus can also deliver these nutritionally important minerals as a bonus. Because of the lower acidity, some people find them less irritating to the gastrointestinal tract than ascorbic acid.
